Uniqlo Uniqlo, the Japanese basics chain, announced plans to expand into Canada with two Toronto stores in fall 2016: a 24,000 sq. ft. flagship store in the Yorkdale Shopping Centre and a 28,000 sq. ft. flagship in Eaton Centre. A third store is planned for Vancouver.

“Entering the Canadian market is a milestone for the company and a significant step in our growth strategy,” said Uniqlo USA chief executive Larry Meyer. “Our first two stores in the great City of Toronto will mark the launch of the Uniqlo brand in Canada, which we aim to build upon thereafter with a presence in the lovely city of Vancouver.”

The Yorkdale opening will be part of the Shopping Centre’s 300,000 sq. ft. expansion.

“Yorkdale Shopping Centre is one of the highest performing shopping centers in North America,” added Meyer. “We’re delighted to join this thriving fashion and retail epicenter bringing customers a comfortable and welcoming shopping environment and the high-quality, fashion apparel that Uniqlo is known for around the world.”

Uniqlo, a division of Tokyo-based Fast Retailing, launched in Japan in 1984. The chain now has more than 1,500 stores worldwide, including 40 in the U.S.
