TAILOR VINTAGE FOCUSES ON EXPERIENCES WITH NEW SHOWROOM CONCEPT

Tailor VintageCombining wholesale and retail shopping in one Garment Center location, Tailor Vintage has created the type of interactive shopping experience that menswear merchants these days are craving. With 3,200 square-feet of usable space, featuring gorgeous brick walls, refurbished wood floors and a welcoming bar area with plenty of seats and refreshments, this bright and spacious store/showroom/workshop has a vintage feel that perfectly complements the apparel.

At any given moment, customers might be trying on fall ‘18 sportswear or discussing politics over Kombucha while retailers write spring ‘19 orders and designers create fall ‘19 fashion. “We love the idea of discovery, of creating a user experience, of showcasing three seasons at once,” says founder and CEO Richard Rosenthal. “We also collaborate with local artists and antique dealers and rotate exhibits monthly.”

And, while some current season inventory is kept in-stock, there are no cash or credit card transactions at the new space on West 39th Street. Instead, purchases are processed via iPad and mostly shipped directly to the customer from a New Jersey warehouse.

The main focus, of course, is the product and Tailor Vintage remains dedicated to a comfortable, casual lifestyle aesthetic that guys can relate to. Retails range from $78 to $198, colors are often muted, fabrics are incredibly soft and mostly performance driven (e.g. fall ‘18 flannels feature both stretch and wicking properties; spring ‘19 adds quick-dry and anti-microbial properties). For fall ‘19, says designer Joy Rosenthal, expect lots of second layer options: sweaters and reversible shirtings, fleece and Sherpa trims and linings. Also going forward: the hot new Tailor Vintage kids’ collection (boys and girls) continues to expand.

Bottom line: while this wholesale/retail combination could be scaled to work anywhere, Tailor Vintage remains committed to its wholesale clients who have supported the collection (and some innovative shop-in-shops) from the beginning.

The Rosenthals invite clients (old and new) to check out their new concept at 214 West 39th Street.
