Steven Alan opens home store
Steven Alan announced the opening of his first home store in Manhattan’s TriBeCa neighborhood today. The Steven Alan Home Shop will stock a variety of products including textiles, ceramics, apothecary, gardening tools, plants, homewear and furniture.
Also available will be J. Picken for Steven Alan, a collection of made-to-order sofas with customizable fabrics, created in collaboration with local furniture designer Hason Pickens. Other global offerings like rugs and kilims by Susan Gomersall and Azy Schecter of KEA in Brooklyn, furniture by Garza Marfa, Khadi and Co. hand woven blankets and towels, ceramics by Shino Takeda and Small Spells, Brooklyn based Good Candle, homegoods from Auntie Oti, special glassware created in collaboration with Brooklyn Glass Studio, and select home items from Fort Standard (who also designed the shop’s fixtures) will be sold.
Alan elaborates on the concept, “Typically, many design stores are predictable and feel like when you go in once, you almost never need to go back. This shop is a quirky, eclectic assortment of things; a space with both local and imported products from around the world. There’s a certain element of surprise, as the product will change frequently. Going in you won’t necessarily know what you’re going to find, but you’ll always want to take something home.”
In 1994, Steven Alan opened his first multi-branded retail store in Manhattan. In 1999, he launched his eponymous collection, which is now wholesaled to over 300 stores worldwide including Barneys, Ron Herman and United Arrows. He owns and operates six stores in New York, three in California and sales showrooms in NY and LA that represent 21 brands. Internationally, he has franchised stores in South Korea, as well as collaborative shop-in-shops with retailers in Japan.
