Retail Spotlight: Craft Atlantic

by Elise Diamantini

Craft Atlantic, an elevated contemporary sportswear collection founded by Pierre Mordacq, opened up shop on a cozy corner of the West Village in October 2014. Luis Fernandez joined the team in December 2013 as creative director overseeing architecture and design. He designed the 800-square-foot store to complement the brand’s aesthetic, offering a modern and minimalistic space with hints of blues and grays.

The store houses Craft Atlantic’s full collection (price points range from $95 for classic T-shirts, $195 to $425 for shirts and knits, and $795 for outerwear), as well as an apothecary area offering an international selection of brands like Truefitt & Hill (London), Imperial (Los Angeles) Recipe for Men (New York), Gentleman’s Brand Co. (Australia); candles from Calming Park (France); footwear from Zespa (France); sunglasses from Italia Independent (Italy); bags from Libero Ferrero (USA); and an eclectic assortment of magazines.

Craft Atlantic, which is made in Italy, entered its first season of wholesale for fall 2015. The fall collection mixes tailored pieces with functionality featuring “artfully layered shades of navy, midnight blue indigos and grays.” Fernandez explains, “We pay special attention to fabric: both natural and rich, but combined with high-tech yarns and construction; they always have an ultra-luxe feel with imbedded functionality and performance. Thin merino wools are technically treated and laminated to be warm, waterproof and breathable. Textured, speckled wool-tech fabrics look rich but are fully functional, and a unique merino-cotton blend is both light and flexible.”
