O’Connell Expands Talbots’ Duties

NEW YORK – Richard O’Connell Jr. has been promoted to executive vice president of legal and real estate at The Talbots Inc. He retains his duties as chief legal officer and secretary of the corporation and assumes responsibilities as the firm’s liaison with its board of directors.

O’Connell joined Talbots as vice president of legal and real estate in 1988 and was promoted to senior vice president the following year. Earlier in his career, he served in legal positions with the Specialty Retail Group of General Mills and Melville Corp. He is a past trustee of the International Council of Shopping Center (ICSC).

“Since joining Talbots, Dick has proven to be an outstanding leader in the areas of legal and real estate and has been a prominent force in our company’s growth,” said Arnold Zetcher, chairman, president and chief executive of Talbots, in a statement. “As we continue to execute Talbots expansion plans, Dick’s responsibilities with our board and his talent and strategic direction will be instrumental, particular as we realize the growth potential for the J. Jill brand.”

Hingham, Mass.-based Talbots operates 1,123 stores under the Talbots brand and 233 under the J. Jill moniker.
