NEW YORK – David Neri has been appointed to the new post of executive vice president and general merchandise manager of shoes at Belk Inc.

Neri, currently senior vice president and GMM at Parisian, will report to McKay Belk, president and chief merchandising officer, until the appointment of a president of merchandising and marketing at the Charlotte, N.C.-based department store chain.

The appointment is contingent upon the consummation of Belk’s acquisition of Parisian from Saks Inc., scheduled for Oct. 2.

Neri has over 30 years of retail management experience, more than 20 of them in the footwear sector.

In a statement, Tim Belk, chairman and chief executive officer of Belk, said, “We’re fortunate to have someone with David’s outstanding merchandising experience and reputation in the shoe business to join Belk and lead our new shoe division. We intend to concentrate our efforts on building a stronger shoe business and making our stores competitive market leaders in this critical merchandise area.”

With 276 stores in 16 states, predominantly in the Southeast, Belk is the largest privately held department store chain in the U.S.
