Richmond, Virginia-based specialty retailer Need Supply Co. is celebrating its twentieth year in business with a newly redesigned hometown flagship store. The store, located at 3100 West Cary Street in Richmond, has been closed since the beginning of the summer in order to completely overhaul the 2,500-square-foot space.

The redesign project was led by popular New York-based architecture firm Family NY, known for its unique collaborations with the likes of Kanye West, Marina Abramovic and the New Museum in New York.

To help celebrate Need Supply’s 20th anniversary, the retailer has enlisted eleven brands for exclusive merchandise collaborations that will be featured in-store and online during the remainder of the year, in a collection aptly dubbed Twenty. Such brands include Common Projects, Gitman Vintage, Our Legacy and Citizens of Humanity.

“For us, the idea that a retail space could be more than just a place to buy things – that it was a hub for like-minded people to come together over the things they love – was born in the surf shops of Virginia Beach,” said owner Chris Bossola in an email to his customers.

Previously named “Blues,” Need Supply Co. has transformed their small denim company into the go-to destination for curated lifestyle products and high-end clothing from both independent designers and global brands. Soon after the store’s inception in 1996, Need Supply Co. quickly branched out from selling rare denim to adding womenswear, sneakers and graphic tees.

Following the launch of its online shop in 2008, Need Supply has gone on to stock countless successful contemporary brands ranging from Off-White, A.P.C, Raf Simons and Simon Miller. Fast forward to today, and the retailer will open their flagship store as a home to over 500 brands spanning contemporary to luxury men’s and womenswear, home, beauty and activewear categories. This fall alone, Need Supply Co. introduces a whole new category of luxury labels including Dries Van Noten, Marni, Lemaire, Margiela, Jil Sander, Sophie Bille Brahe, Acne and Junya Watanabe.
