MACY’S BUILDING A NEW STORE IN UTAH; SFA OFF FIFTH TO OPEN IN AUSTIN

logo_macys-150x150.pngMacy’s Inc. said today it will begin construction in early 2016 on a new 160,000-sq-ft, two-level Macy’s store at Fashion Place in Murray, Utah. The brand new building, which will be on the site of a former Dillard’s, is due to open in spring 2017.

A smaller 26,000-sq-ft Macy’s used to be a part of the complex, which is owned by General Growth Properties Inc, but closed in 2014 as part of the mall’s redevelopment.

The new Macy’s will be the store’s seventh location in Utah and fifth in the Salt Lake City area.

 

Meanwhile, Hudson’s Bay Company announced today it will open a Saks Fifth Avenue OFF Fifth discount outlet at the Gateway Shopping Centers in Austin, Tex. next spring. The 50,000-sq.-ft store will have an open floorplan and carry mens- and womenswear.saks_fifth_ave_off_5th-150x150

“Austin has gained a fantastic reputation as an energized, community-minded city and we are thrilled to be opening our first store here and joining that community,” said Jonathan Greller, president of outlets, Hudson’s Bay Company, in a statement. “Texas continues to be a flourishing market for us and we look forward to welcoming Austin shoppers and showcasing the exceptional product and customer experience we are known for.”

There are currently 85 brick-and-mortar Saks Fifth Avenue OFF Fifth stores nationwide. The outlets will begin opening in Canada in spring 2016.
