CULTURATA LAUNCHES SOFT CLOTHING COLLECTION

Culturata
by Karen Alberg Grossman

CulturataJust what upscale retailers have been clamoring for: an artisanal, sustainable, soft-hand, soft-construction clothing collection out of Italy to retail at reasonable pricepoints. Sportcoats are priced to sell at $595, $695, and $795 and they are truly special, featuring all natural fabric blends that boast an incredible softness in richly nuanced shades created by a unique six-step washing and dying process. The craftsmanship is old school; the attitude is modern and very cool!

Culturata, owned by designers Jacques Haggiag and Nadine Price, is now part of LMAG, tailored clothing specialists and makers of Samuelsohn and Hickey Freeman. Says LMAG design director Arnold Silverstone, “We acquired Culturata about two years ago and the shirts have been incredibly successful in upscale stores like Neimans, Nordstrom and the Forum group. Based on very strong sell-throughs, it was natural to extend the brand to soft clothing. But this is not a classic tailored clothing collection! It’s soft washed sportswear (including safari jackets, cargo pants, joggers) with a totally Italian DNA. For example, we’ll use a beautiful washed Italian linen herringbone in both sportcoats and other items. The Spring 18 capsule collection features 75 swatches; the fall 18 collection will offer twice that many.”
