Charles Spiegel For Men To Close After 35 Years

After 35 years in business — 11 years in Monroeville Mall and the rest on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill — menswear retailer Charles Spiegel for Men announced it will soon close its doors. “I’m very appreciative for all the years that I’ve spent in the business and to the Squirrel Hill community,” says owner Charles Spiegel. “It’s a great business. It’s just time for me to get on with another part of my life.” A “Charles is retiring” sale is underway, with merchandise marked down 50 percent to 70 percent off. Once the remaining inventory is sold, the store will close, he said. A “love of the menswear industry” kept him going all these years in an industry that he considered his calling. “I realized that I had a talent and that I couldn’t explore it any other way but to do it on my own,” he told the Post-Gazette when the store marked its 25th anniversary. “I was a young guy with no money. It was SBA-funded from the beginning. Nobody ever really thought I would succeed.” Read more at Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
