Italian luxury brand Canali has hired Hyun-Wook Lee to its new collection designer.

With over 17 years of experience in the fashion industry, Lee will be tasked with reinforcing the pillars of Canali’s DNA—tailoring excellence, exceptional materials, and attention to detail – and combing them to further enhance the brand’s stylistic identity. He will supervise the design of its formal, sportswear, and accessory lines with the objective of continuing the brand’s journey towards a comprehensive fusion of craftsmanship and style.

In 2000, at the completion of his studies at the Marangoni Institute in Milan, Lee began to collaborate with some of the most important clothing and accessory brands in the industry including Gianfranco Ferré and Versace. His foray into men’s fashion continued at Zegna and then at Berluti in Paris in 2011 where he fleshes out his knowledge of tailoring and craftsmanship and launches the brand’s menswear line. These years in Paris proved to be formative, both on a personal and professional level, as Lee encounters the stylistic diversity of the City of Lights.

“Early on, I realized that menswear is my true calling as it allows me to express my personality to the fullest and to convey the way that I see the world through the details of a finely crafted suit,” said Lee. “I am excited to work with such a storied brand, known for its sartorial excellence and pursuit of innovation, and have already begun to define the elements of the upcoming collection with the design team.”

“Our decision to bring in Wook fits perfectly into the natural evolution of our brand,” added Stefano Canali, general manager of Canali. “His eclectic talent will be focused not only on the development of a formal collection with soft tailoring characteristics but also on strengthening the creative essence of our sportswear and accessory lines while remaining loyal to the values that have defined us for more than 80 years.”
