Arkins to Design Bobby Jones

NEW YORK – Christian Arkins has joined the Bobby Jones division of Hickey Freeman Co. as menswear director of design.

Arkins, who was previously the design director at Original Penguin, will be based in Hickey Freeman’s New York showroom and report to Paulette Garafalo, group president and chief operating officer of Hickey Freeman and Bobby Jones. He will oversee all aspects of design, sourcing and merchandising for both Bobby Jones men’s collections, Bobby Jones Collection and Bobby Jones Players.

Arkins takes over some of the responsibilities previously covered by Billy Draddy, who left Hickey Freeman as vice president of design to go to Polo Ralph Lauren earlier this year.

At Original Penguin, Arkins was involved in the creation of both the men’s and women’s collections. He’s also held posts with J. Crew and Polo Ralph Lauren.

“Christian’s presence will be instrumental as Bobby Jones evolves to meet the needs of the next generation of luxury sportswear and golf customers,” said Garafalo. “His exquisite taste level and strong understanding of the men’s fashion business will allow us to make great advances while staying true to our current core customer.”

Hickey Freeman is owned by Hartmarx Corp.
