With an impressive luxury background that includes Barneys NY (where he built the European clothing business with brands like Isaia and Belvest), Harrison James (his own retail/lifestyle “club” that offered fine clothing, shaves, shoeshines, cigars and single malts, all in a fabulous Stanford White NYC townhouse), Bijan, and a successful NYC custom clothing business, Alan Couture (created in 1998 and currently generating about $3 million in sales on the sixth floor of a midtown building with no advertising), Alan Katzman knows luxury menswear as well as anyone.

So there’s plenty of reason to be excited about his current venture, also called Harrison James (to reflect the original store concept). It is essentially a curated wholesale showroom of classic European luxury brands with history and pedigree. Katzman and his son Maximillian travel regularly to Italy to discover the finest luxury brands that are not overly distributed in the States. These include Santandrea tailored clothing, E.Maffeis shirts, Mandelli outerwear, Arcuri neckwear, Antonio Barbuto trousers, Cruciani cashmere and Stefano Bemer footwear.

Select retailers will then be able to offer their customers a “Harrison James” experience in their own stores, providing the exclusivity and margin opportunities so needed in today’s luxury market.
